Google plans to relaunch an AI tool after being forced by inaccuracies in some historical depictions triggered online anger. Google began offering image generation through its Gemini AI models earlier this month. “Some of Gemini's images portrayed Nazi soldiers as Black and Asian and popes as female,” reports CBS. “The controversy spiralled when Gemini was found to be creating questionable text responses, such as equating Elon Musk’s influence on society with Adolf Hitler’s… Those comments drew sharp criticisms, especially from conservatives, who accused Google of an anti-white bias,” says Semafor, which first reported on the ‘relaunch’ plan.
