Two men jumped from the Lok Sabha’s public gallery at noon today and opened gas canisters that released yellow smoke. They also shouted slogans such as “tanashahi nahin chalegi” (‘dictatorship will not be accepted’). The gas appeared to be harmless. But the fact that the men could enter the chamber where MPs sit carrying material that could easily have been dangerous, is not. One of whom was carrying a visitor’s pass sanctioned by an MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party (Pratap Simha from Mysuru in Karnataka). More about that later. The men were overpowered quickly. Two others were arrested outside Parliament for protesting and carrying gas cans. One of those arrested outside, a woman identified as Neelam, said they were protesting against
