'The complicity of the CM in the state-sponsored ethnic cleansing, which we have always maintained since day one (of the conflict), has now been established buying an iota of doubt,' 10 Kuki MLAs from Manipur said about N Biren Singh, after The Wire's coverage of the Manipur Tapes. The BJP government in the state said in a press release that the tapes are “doctored” but its claim is being contradicted by politicians close to or related to the Chief Minister who have said they intend to hunt down the “traitors” who leaked the recording.

At the heart of the controversy in Manipur is the indifference to human life on the part of Biren Singh and Narendra Modi. More than 220 people have been killed and nearly 60,000 people displaced without the Prime Minister doing anything to restore peace. Yet he drew applause from his supporters for saying – in Warsaw today – that his government was opposed to conflict everywhere and had the capacity to bring peace even in Europe!
