As Israeli drones and missiles continued to rain down on Iran, India on Tuesday issued a strong advisory urging all Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in the Iranian capital to leave the city immediately. In another statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that Indian students in Tehran had been moved out of the city for “reasons of safety” through arrangements made by the embassy. Some Indians were also facilitated to leave Iran through its border with Armenia, the ministry added.

The Indian advisories come amid a rapidly deteriorating security situation in the region with US President Donald Trump first warning Tehran residents to evacuate the city immediately and now demanding the ‘unconditional surrender’ of Iran.

In Iran, BBC reports that roads are blocked and people exhausted; “how can 10 million people evacuate,” one resident asks.

Israel Defense Forces on Monday issued a warning, asking people in District 3 of the Iranian capital to leave the area immediately for their safety. “In the coming hours, the Israeli Army will take action in this area to attack the Iranian regime’s military infrastructure, just as it has done in recent days around Tehran,” the Israeli forces had said. Trump also cut short his visit to the G7 summit in Canada and flew back to Washington amidst speculation that he may commit the US to directly participating in Israel’s attack on Iran,
