Taking forward Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s invective against the Supreme Court for its judgment binding governors and the president to making timely decisions on state Bills – firebrand BJP MP Nishikant Dubey held the apex court “solely responsible for inciting religious wars in the country” and Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna for “all civil wars” in India. He also said that if the court cannot stick to its “responsibility … to interpret laws” then India’s legislatures may as well close shop. BJP president JP Nadda has since said that the saffron party “has nothing to do” with the statements made by Dubey and similar remarks by MP Dinesh Sharma, and that they made these remarks in their personal capacity. Nadda did not say whether the BJP will act against either MP.
