At least one tourist has been killed and several injured in a terrorist attack on a health resort in Pahalgam in south Kashmir. There are fears that the toll could be much higher. The news agency PTI quoted an anonymous ‘high-ranking’ official as saying the death toll could be more than 20, without giving more details. Injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital and a medical centre, Gunshots were reported to have been heard at around 2.50 pm on Baisaran meadow, which is a 7 km trail from Pahalgam bus stand and is popular with hikers. The area is very heavily patrolled by the Indian Army, CRPF and the J & K Police.
