“Judges are bound by law and not by politics”, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma said today while ruling that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate last month was not illegal. The judge said that “political considerations cannot be brought before a court of law” and that in the “absence of any mala fide on the part of [the] ED”, Kejriwal’s challenge to the timing of his arrest – just weeks before a crucial election – was “not sustainable”.
