Ten people were killed this morning when a section of the Gambhira bridge over the Mahisagar river in central Gujarat caved in, causing several vehicles to fall into the water below. Nine others were rescued, some of whom suffered injuries. Dilip Singh Kshatriya reports that an audio recording from 2022 purportedly between a state roads and buildings official and an activist has gone viral, in which the official is apparently heard saying that the bridge “would not last this year either”. That year a panchayat official from Vadodara had also flagged the bridge's deteriorating condition to the authorities, Kshatriya writes. However, an engineering official based in Vadodara told the press today that the 40-year-old bridge “was not in a dilapidated condition” and that an inspection of its state “did not indicate any major structural damage”.

In Rajasthan's Churu, two air force pilots conducting a routine training exercise were killed when their aircraft crashed there this morning. A court of inquiry has been formed to understand what caused the crash, the air force said. The pilots were flying a Jaguar trainer aircraft. India's is the only major air force that
