In light of the recent spike in violence in Manipur, the Union home ministry has reimposed the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in most of Imphal valley and deployed 20 additional companies of the Central Armed Police Forces – that’s around 2,000 personnel – to the state, bringing the total number of CAPF forces there to about 22,000. This has been done by shuffling paramilitaries already deployed in the northeast: 15 CRPF companies are being withdrawn from Assam and five BSF
